Recent OSU commit Peyton Craven leads the Molalla track squad into district meet action.

Indians ride into the Tri Valley district meet with plenty of potential for points and beyond

There will be throwing, running and jumping galore for the Molalla High track and field squad during the Tri-Valley Conference Championships May 21-22 at Ward Rhoden Stadium in Prineville.

At stake will be individual and team glory within the conference, something the Indians have plenty of potential to deliver, as well as earn berths to the Class 4A State Meet at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene on May 30-31.

Leading the way will be multi-event standout Peyton Craven, who recently signed a letter-of-intent to the Oregon State University track team.

There are three ways for Molalla athletes to make it to the state meet. Here’s a look at what they are:

  • Automatic Qualifiers – Top two placers in each individual and relay event at each District Meet automatically qualifies for the State Championships. If there is a tie for second place, it shall be determined by the League prior to submitting the official state championship entries to the OSAA.
  • Qualifying Standards – Championship finalists in individual and relay events at each District Meet who meet the qualifying standard (4th place average of the last four State Championships) for individual events and (3rd place average of the last three State Championships) for relays automatically qualify.
  • Wildcards – There is 1 additional spot for the next fastest times/marks from District Meet finals.
For the district meet, the action begins at 3:30 p.m. on May 21, 10:30 a.m. on May 22. Here’s a look at where Molalla athletes are ranked heading toward the district meet.

*Note: Athletes are limited to four events, including relays. Some athletes ranked in multiple events may not contest those events at the district meet.
